Jazz’s Collin Sexton Made Available In NBA Trade Talks
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Utah Jazz have made point guard Collin Sexton available in trade talks, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.

The Jazz, who have the ninth overall pick in the 2023 draft, are trying to move up in the draft.

“Utah has been in contact with the Pistons about trading up from Nos. 9 and 16, according to league sources, with rival teams of the belief the Jazz are searching to get above Washington’s eighth pick in order to select Arkansas guard Anthony Black,” Fischer wrote. “Utah has also contacted Indiana about trading into the seventh selection, sources said. But the Jazz may need to trade above Orlando — or find a trade with the Magic at No. 6 — to secure a chance at Black. Utah has made guard Collin Sexton available in trade talks around the league, sources said.”

The Jazz acquired Sexton last summer from the Cleveland Cavaliers in the blockbuster Donovan Mitchell trade. The Alabama product averaged 14.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists this past season while shooting 50.6% from the field, 39.3% from beyond the arc and 81.9% from the free-throw line in 48 games.

Sexton signed a four-year, $70.9 million deal in September 2022. He’ll make $17.3 million next season.

The 24-year-old has career averages of 19.0 points, 2.9 boards and 3.2 assists with the Cavaliers and Jazz while shooting 46.4% overall, 38.0% from 3-point range and 82.6% from the free-throw line. He was the eighth overall pick in the 2018 draft.

The Jazz won 37 games this past season. They are building around Lauri Markkanen, Walker Kessler and Ochai Agbaji. Utah is expected to trade veteran forward Rudy Gay this offseason, sources told NBA Analysis Network. It’s possible Sexton and Gay could be moved in the same deal.
